Carbonite Safe offers a variety of options to help you restore your files. If you only need to restore a single file or group of files, you can manually select them and restore them to your machine or use Anytime Anywhere Access.
Pros: I have used Carbonite in the past when I was running a company with 10 employees. One of my worst fears in the world would be having a computer corrupt or damaged and not able to access the files. It is better to be prepared than kick yourself later for not doing it. It was easy to set up carbonite on all of the computer and synced the backup on changes that were made within the computer. You select what folders that carbonite will consistently backup, such as my documents or customer invoices folder etc.
The plan did not have any data limits on the amount of data you can backup. Carbonite really saved us when one of the disgruntled employees was trying to maliciously delete important documents and negatively hurt the company.
It was about as simple as can be to retrieve the documents that were deleted and so nothing bad happened in result of this individuals actions. I never noticed any computer performance when running this software on a computer. I was surprised because I thought it would affect the computer in a negative way. I would recommend Carbonite for anybody dealing with important documents on a computer that cannot lose the information. Cons: The least of what I liked about this is probably pricing.
I feel like it should be a little lower for a backup system. There are quite a few plans to choose from but think the pricing for all of them should be a little lower. Other than that everything is perfect! Pros: Carbonite was one of the first cloud backup services available.
For an annual fee (which can be renewed for up to three years at a time), you can have all your files uploaded to a secure server. All files are encrypted and stored safely until you need them again. Carbonite constantly checks your system for new files and updates the backup as needed.
Carbonite also has an option to back up your entire system-not just document files. The best selling point is that your files are encrypted before they leave your system.
Cons: Carbonite is a bit on the expensive side, when you consider that there are less expensive options available for simple (unencrypted) cloud services. Also, restoring a backup from Carbonite can take many days because of the encryption/decryption process. Unless you absolutely need a system backup, use another service for cloud storage.
Overall: I hav ebeen using Carbonite for about 5 years. Pros: Carbonite works behind the scenes and I have used here at work and at home. You can be confident your files are available if they are lost on your computer Cons: The increase in the yearly fee. There are other systems that do similar saving like in cloud that are free. You would still need something like Sea Gate to back up the external and that would cost more in Carbonite but it would make more sense paying for. However, Sea Gate is a one time purchase. Overall: Have not had to use at work because no problems.
However, several years ago at home I did lose my files and it was easy to access and download what I anted. I truly wish they had not increased their annual fee but I am using a freebie.
I don't have the money at home to have Sea Gate to backup everything but we do have at work along with Carbonite. However, when the contract expires we will be leaving Carbonite because they charge too much. Pros: Ease of use. Tough encryption. Competent support staff, real people to talk to. Cons: The 7-day delay in notification of failure to back-up.
Overall: We have used Carbonite for at least 10 years. It has saved us more than once in the case of hard drive failures. It is easy to configure. They now offer multiple plans and help you decide which one will best serve our needs. I gave the features and functionality 4 stars because it occasionally does not connect to their server and it waits 7 days to tell you it hasn't backed up a particular computer. We now are in the habit of checking for backup daily.
Compared to other backup methods we have used in the past such as tape drives or rewritable cd's or cassettes, this is far superior. I used to worry about having our data in the cloud, but times are changing, and they have some tough encryption. Recommendations to other buyers: Better safe than sorry. Pros: I like that this software is very reliable.
It is working in the background constantly updating all new files. Not only that, but it doesn't slow down the computer while doing it which is a huge plus in my book. I've had many other software programs slow my computer down and I end up ditching them. If we accidentally delete a file, we can go into Carbonite and recover it. Cons: A couple downsides to this is that if you do happen to lose your information, it takes a long time to download all of the files back onto your computer.
Another downside is that Cabonite does not backup any files that have the symbol in the name. I use this often to put certain commonly used files up at the top of list for quick access. Overall: Overall this is a great product for adding another method of backup to your files for a good price. Pros: It's easy to set up and operates behind the scenes. You don't even know it's running and it backs up your files to the cloud. Super simple to set up and use.
Cons: I don't have any issues with this software. The prices is reasonable, the back up process is simple, and it's a great piece of mind software. Overall: I needed the ability to back up my laptop to a remote location.
I've used Carbonite for probably 10 years. I had two instances where hard drives went bad during my busy season. Thankfully we were using Carbonite on each computer. I was able to get up and running within a day and ever since then, I've used Carbonite.
It's a lifesaver and gives me piece of mind knowing that my files are safely backed up. Pros: Once you configure your initial backup, Carbonite will take care of everything for you on auto pilot.
New files and changed files will automatically be backed up without you having to remember to. Restoring files after a catastrophic hard drive failure took a while due to the size of the backup but worked well. Cons: Price has been increasing steadily over the years without adding value, other providers are now more competitive price wise.
Overall: I've had them for over 10 years in my personal computer and I've been very happy. I didn't care for the business version so chose not to use it for my business as there are other products that offer a better value. Pros: - You can back up an unlimited amount of photos, music, and files. You can easily see what files are included in the backup, and easily add more files. Backup is continuous, you don't have to check it or worry about it. Overall a good backup solution. I have not had any problems or errors.
Cons: - It takes forever to retrieve your files. I am restoring files from my old computer to my new one. It has been going for about three WEEKS and it is now at 83%. However, if I needed one particular file right away, I could search for and download that one sooner. Overall: Peace of mind knowing my files are backed up. Pros: Carbonite was my safety net when my system crashed.
I have created a LOT of marketing material over time and it is imperative to have a backup system. I was able to find the files I needed and load them back. Their phone line customer service was also top-notch the one time I called.
They were professional and helpful and had me up and running quickly. Cons: The main detriment is that if you have a lot of large files it will take you a long time even with fast upload speed to get your files loaded back. Overall: Great backup of my work - only downside was slow in getting them loaded back. Pros: One of the best features of this software is the ease of use. Upon setup, it walks you through the entire process.
Doesn't get any easier than that. I've used this software for several years and during that time had on two occasions lost a hard drive and all the data on it. Thankfully Carbonite was there to restore. Cons: I've used Carbonite for several years and honestly don't have any negatives for this program. It just works!
Overall: it provide the peace of mind knowing that your data is always backed up. It does this on a daily basis, so you have the most up to date image of current data. Pros: Losing your company's data is the worst nightmare that you can never admire to experience. That is why we decided to use Carbonite because it is the most reliable data backup software. Even a hacker steals our data, we can easily retrieve it using Carbonite. Carbonite works very well for us because it helps us to access our files using different computers and from wherever we are. Cons: At times, Carbonite slows down our computers, which I consider as time wasting.
However, when the server is at its best, it offers the best services. Overall: I have had an excellent experience with Carbonite because it has saved us occasionally. It keeps all our files or company's data safe. I also love how I can access files quickly and easily using this tool.
Pros: Been using it at home for years. Very reasonably priced. I love that it can run automatically during the specified hours so I don't have to worry about it using bandwidth. Files are then available to other devices. Cons: Video files are not automatic. You have to specify to back up each one, or a bunch at a time, but it's not as automatic as other file types. So, every once in a while, I search file type: video, select all, and make sure they're all being backed up.
Interface for getting files from the cloud is a little slow and clunky. Overall: Peace of mind. Pros: Ease of install - It is extremely easy to deploy Carbonite. I have installed it on our Windows 10 workstations as well as our server VMs running Windows Server 2012. Each time the process is quick and simple. I also like the custom updates it provides on backup status.
It also lets you customize backup policies for each individual device to optimize utilization. Cons: They wanted to increase our yearly cost by more than 50% with minimal account upgrades. Our account was set to renew automatically at this increased price with no warning.
An account rep reached out to me a 6-8 weeks ahead of our renewal date but wouldn't respond until we were about 2 weeks out. At that time he informed me our price was going up. The strange thing was that under billing it still showed the price we had been paying for the past six years, and showed we would be charged the same amount again on our renewal date. If he hadn't mentioned it on the call they would have charged us the new price without informing us until we received the receipt. I really did not like that their system was showing one price but they planned to spring another on us. Overall: I really liked it until they implemented the HUGE price increase. Perhaps it was a problem with just that one employee but they definitely need to get better at communicating changes to their customers.
I'll be switching to a more cost effective product once our subscription is up. Pros: Users love being able to login on phone/pad and view files that have been synced from their workstation/laptop.
Also, gives them security that their files are backed up if something went wrong with their workstation/laptop. Cons: Not really con but depending on amount of data, syncing it up and recovery can take sometime to complete.
Overall: It has been a life savor for me. Our owner had lost his laptop and I was able to fully recover his data to restore on new laptop. He was extremely great full that we had this software installed.
Pros: Carbonite works well for backup of desktop PCs, but the product is lacking when it comes to server/enterprise level backup. It's good value for the price when it comes to desktop PC back. Cons: The server file restore process takes significantly more time than I have experienced with other enterprise-level backup solutions, which results in more down-time in some cases. We have a high speed wired Internet connection to our servers, but file restore from the cloud can take days to complete in most cases. Pros: Carbonite is a reliable software that we use in our firm for backing up our essential data of files. I like the simplicity of Carbonite. Moreover, I like using Carbonite because it keeps the backed up data secure and organized all the time.
It does not change the initial formats. Cons: There is not much to like about Carbonite because it is an essential tool. Nonetheless, in my opinion, the customer care team of Carbonite is not supportive and responsive as they should be. They even ignore questions. Overall: I have a great experience with Carbonite. I would recommend Carbonite to others because it is an affordable and straightfoward software. Pros: Carbonite is pretty easy to set up, and it will capture changes in files pretty quickly.
It's a set-it-and-forget-it backup utility. You simply choose which folders you want to be backed up, and it will monitor for changes and get the files into the cloud. Cons: Carbonite owns your encryption key, meaning that when it does encrypt, the employees of Carbonite could theoretically gain access to your data. It's better to use a service that allows you to create an encryption key (there are many alternatives).
Also, the biggest con to this is restoring. When you are restoring from the web interface (because, say, your server/PC is dead), then what happens is that the page will time out during the download. When this happens the download is canceled and you have to start over.
For restores of large files, I've had to sit in front of the computer to click within the window every few minutes so I wouldn't get disconnected. Also, they are not HIPAA compliant, they do not encrypt the data prior to transmission, and I don't trust their security. Pros: Price and easy to configure. Customer support was very courteous and professional Cons: It doesn't perform as advertised and/or expected. Restore function takes forever no matter how much bandwidth you have available.
Overall: Last year I dumped my external backup drive to have a 'more secure' off site backup alternative. (BIG MISTAKE) I saw many promotions on their service, everything made sense. Cost was reasonable and all that. So I enrolled. Made sure that all my files were backed up through their app and all of that. One day My hard drive crashed. OMG, well no worries, Carbonite has my files backed up.
I proceeded to restore my files. Surprisingly I noticed that my restore was going WAY SLOOOOOW. I diagnosed my network, new hard drive and internet connection. I have 400 mbps internet service.
Well I found our that after all my download was not exceeding 3 mbps. I proceeded to call tech support and after many attempts and escalations the told me that that was the maximum throughput I will ever need.
That no matter which plan I enrolled their technology will not allow for greater speed because they do one file at the time, they encrypt and then decrypt, they cant do it any faster. So, be prepared to wait weeks for your download to complete. Just don't expose yourself to this scam.
It will NOT save you when you really need it. Pros: This software WILL restore documents and files back to their rightful place, fairly quickly. The backup is automatic and runs in the background.
Great peace of mind. Cons: Carbonite can be difficult to use without calling support. The manual uses too much industry jargon for my liking.
But this is not a deal breaker. Support is courteous and helpful. I switched to a different company once for promotion, lost some files and tried to restore, and it didn't have all the files. Came back to Carbonite asap.
Overall: This software is wonderful when you need it. Losing files and documents is very scary. Carbonite backs up automatically and provides great peace of mind. Pros: several levels of backing up and recovering methods, imaging, file and folder, excellent bandwidth throttling tables. Local backups and online. Easy to use interface Cons: Seed drives. I wish they offered seed drives to speed up implementation of backup initial installation.
Many small offices dont have large connections to upload, so it creates a giant 3 month long backlog of incremental. They recently changed the local app to a more 'windows 10' feel. I dont care for it at all. I like the classic layout. The cloud website isnt synced very well with the local cllints as far as backup reporting goes. Many times its out of sync.
Overall: Overall, dispite the cons listed above, its pretty much a hands free product and easy to use. It does everything that you might want it to do. Pros: It was installed and configured by the previous admin, that's it.Honestly there is nothing positive about this software. Cons: Horrible user setup, Bad server support, Software required daily administration to keep users up to date. Customer service was terrible. No matter what the reason for contact tech support they could not resolve even basic errors.
Server support would bloat our data backup and would not release expired backups. Unable to restore ANY user files no matter the user backup size.
The software/ company cost me over 300gb of lost data due to failed server backups. The final straw was when they had a security breech and sent all users an email 'click on this link to reset your password' What happened, as I was told a senior executive decided to blow out ALL customer access passwords and send this email to reset. Oh, and let's not forget that this little blowup allowed you to use the SAME password that just got dumped. Overall: I can not offer any user a benefit to using this company for backing up critical user documents, pictures and data. My recommendation is to find something different. Pros: The home version works great. I like the ability to access my files remotely from any computer with internet connection.
Cons: When running, this Carbonite slows down my computer a little. However, I understand this is a problem with all cloud based backup storage.
Overall: I purchased two separate licenses at the same time. One was for my home and another for my business. I have been satisfied with the home version, but ended up cancelling my business license after a year. I just kept getting error after error. Each time I called customer support, they had me uninstall then reinstall the software.
It never fixed the problem. Eventually, I gave up calling customer support because they didn't try anything new. I don't really know that the difference is between the two, but I had nothing but trouble with the version installed on my work server. The home version, on the other hand, has worked great.
It runs quietly in the background. I gave my parents a license for Christmas one year, and they have enjoyed the piece of mind knowing their files are being backed up. Pros: I had been using an onsite back up system and tried the 30 day free trial with Carbonite. Super easy to set up and they had great follow up to get us going Cons: I haven't really had any problems with Carbonite yet. It runs in the back ground constantly and i never even notice it's there. Everything I want is backed up! Overall: Being a financial services firm we have to have a specific back up system for our industry.
This one is great, meets all the needs of our compliance department and We can customize the backups. Pros: Price was reasonable and setting it up was pretty easy. This service worked great for most of my files. This is an update to my previous review. Cons: They don't backup 100% of your computer as advertised.
I learned this the hard way. I set up my computer to back up everything with Carbonite. When my hard drive failed I was happy I had this cloud service. But when restoring my files it was a pain restoring my wife's saved fonts and family pictures. To my horror I couldn't find my ripped classic movie collection nor most of my family videos. All of these were saved in my iTunes library and after speaking with customer service I learned that Carbonite does not automatically back up any videos not found in the Photos app. They will back up videos, but you have to manually do it, I am still mad to this day!
Overall: Backed up most of my files, but not my videos. Pros: Carbonite is a excellent software for cloud backup.
We use it for everyone in the company. It backs up files, you can login and access your files from other computers as necessary. It offers different plans depending upon your budget and needs. The cloud backup is automatic. It has great customer support and the files are encrypted for extra security.
Cons: We have been using Carbonite for over 4 years and have never had an issue. Overall: Carbonite is a great program for cloud backup for small businesses. Pros: By far - what I most like about Carbonite is once it's installed, you pretty much forget about it. Lots of backup software requires frequent attention, but Carbonite just does its thing without bothering you. Cons: There's nothing negative to say about Carbonite. Overall: The software was quick and easy to install, and the first backup doesn't take too long.
Once you have it set up, there's a small green dot beside everything to let you know it's safely backed up by Carbonite. Wonderful software. Pros: Carbonite was easy to install and use, but over the years required re-installation on several occasions to resume back up. Cons: When Carbonite discontinued their mirroring back-up, I cancelled my many years' subscription with a year of service remaining. Carbonite refused to refund the prepaid year. So not only did they change the services I paid for, they refused to refund the payment for the mirroring service I pay for. I strongly discourage anyone from using Carbonite.
Overall: Carbonite worked but their business philosophy is seriously lacking. I prepaid for for years, but when they changed the service package by discontinuing boot disk and application software mirroring, they refused to refund the payment for the prepaid year. Pros: I've used Cabonite in the past and had a good experience. It was a reliable way to backup my laptop and served as a way to have remote access to my documents, files and pictures.
Cons: Carbonite caused my MacBook Pro to constantly run which made it get very hot to the touch. After a few weeks of identifying the issue, I uninstalled it and called support. They talked me through reinstalling it.
The same issue happened and they were not able to fix it. After many hours invested in trying to make it work right, it just didn't work on my laptop for some reason.
They refused to refund my money. I was a repeat customer, but am not a fan. Pros: You are able to access the carbonite backup drive right in the file explorer. From this carbonite backup drive you are able to see what files have been backed up, what is pending. You are able to restore files or pause the backup. Very easy for a non-tech person to use. Cons: As an IT technician, the administrator portal does not allow many functions so you must connect to the users pc in order to select any files to remove from the backup.
The default policy could be better and should not include app data. Overall: We installed this product on all of our PCS after wey lost all of our PC data during a ransomware attack.
None of the pcs were backed up and only the servers. This offers us an inexpensive way to have peace of mind. Comments: I use Carbonite to back up my computer, my phone and my tablet. It does it automatically every 24 hours and I never have to worry about losing my work, videos, music or photos. It also awesome because I can access all of my files on any of my devices from my phone, which is super convenient.
Their prices are very reasonable and the service is completely reliable. I have been using the service for 4 years now and have never had any kinds of problems with it. Always reliable, always fast. I highly recommend Carbonite to anyone that needs easy backup and restore service without having to do a thing. Pros: Fast, easy to use, reliable, can access all info from all devices.
Pros: Easy to use Cons: Won't work on mac Overall: I have been using Carbonite on my Windows machine for almost a decade. It's easy to use, cheap, and their customer service is excellent. I've never waited any more than a minute or two for a chat session and they use a really easy remote login client that saves a ton of time. I thought I'd try it on my wife's Mac and 3 frustrating days later I pulled the plug and cancelled the subscription.
I chatted with 4 different reps over 5 sessions and no one could get it to work any longer than 15 or 20 minutes. That aside, I have no hesitation in recommending it for any Windows installation. Pros: Love the business price for server and workstation backup, and how easy it is to setup and configure. This is the best price backup software I've seen, and it's still number one in my book. We have tried Mozy, Crash plan, etc, but Carbonite is by far the easier, and cost effective solution. Cons: Nothing really.
This has been the software of choice we use in our office, and also recommend to clients that do not have already existing backup software. Overall: Easy setup, and very easy data restore as well from the cloud. Was able to browse the file I wished to restore on my mobile phone. Pros: Carbonite provides a relatively inexpensive and seemingly feature-rich DIY solution for offsite backups.
I appreciate being able to set policies for different user types, the ability to download partial or full user backups from the cloud, and being able to give end-users access to their documents on mobile devices via the Carbonite app. Cons: At times, I find the Carbonite Server UI to be confusing and slow.
The way that backup sets are configured and managed just isn't very clear to me. Additionally, when viewing the server backup history from the online control panel, more ways to search / filter the backup history by server, status, etc. Would be appreciated. Pros: Ability to save backups locally and in the cloud. Flexible scheduling and retention policies. The ability to back up data from our highly varied hardware/software environment was a key factor in choosing the software.
Cons: Management software feels 'clunkly' and many times is very slow. I've had some sub par experiences with upgrades causing features to stop working. Overall: The ability to backup data from a highly varied environment (Linux, Windows, VMWare) both locally and to the cloud with customized schedules and retention policies.
Comments: In our office, Norton's backup system had been in place for a long time. While it seems to do the job, it became more and more cumbersome to use, having to delete old backups and make room for new ones. Our bookkeeper recommended Carbonite and it was a very seamless transition. It was easy to install, very easy to see which files were backedvup, and very easy to add files to be backed up. There are no file space limitations, and when a file is backed, it writesvover the old version, so there are not multiple copies of back ups floating around. For basic service, which is plenty for a small office, it made perfect sense and we are so glad we switched products! Pros: The ease with which to back up was the greatest pro of this software.
The Mac user interface was easy to work with. It also appears to not tax resources on the computer Cons: Account maintenance was not at all intuitive and there was no way to upgrade easily once a plan was chosen. A support person had be brought in and then it was discovered that the free trial was be forfeited if the plan was upgraded. Additionally, the sales support couldn't seem to give reasons to choose Carbonite over its competitors. Pros: The very best part of carbonite can be said to be the ease at which things can be set up. On top of that, the program is pretty snappy during installation.
There is no need to be tech savy to get things done, you can as well go with the default settings and sit back while things remain automated for you. Cons: I personally feel carbonite does not allocate enough bandwidth for stuffs backed up with them and for this reason, restoration of backups tends to be super slow, moves at a snail speed and is terribly annoying.
